Briar Village Swim Team: Programs for All Skill Levels

Briar Flyers

This is for the swimmer who already knows how to swim freestyle/front crawl and can swim the full length of the pool without assistance. Knowledge of backstroke, breaststroke, or butterfly is not necessary. The Briar Flyers is a friendly but competitive swim team.

Junior Flyers

This is for the child who can not swim the full length of the pool unassisted. These swimmers do not compete in swim meets but always have the opportunity to move up to the Briar Flyer swim team if they gain the skill to swim the full length of the pool during the swim season.

    Important Changes for Junior Flyers

    2024 Junior Flyer Program Updates

The Junior Flyer program has undergone some changes to improve the benefits and overall experience. We understand that some families may have preferred the previous format. However, we assure you that the changes have been made to sustain and improve the program while maintaining cost savings compared to the average cost per swim lesson. We are excited to invite you to join us for the May and June sessions. We are confident the changes will provide a better experience for your children, and we look forward to seeing them get across the pool. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your continued support.

Changes to Registration and Classes Per Session

Starting in the 2024 season, we will divide our Junior Flyers program into two sessions: one in May and one in June. Each session requires a separate registration enrollment and fees. To ensure that each swimmer receives the best learning experience, we will limit each class within the session to a maximum of ten swimmers. Once the maximum limit of ten swimmers per class is reached, registration for that session will automatically close.

    Changes to Practice Schedule

Junior Flyers will practice three times a week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Practice lessons include thirty minutes of in-water practice time. Dryland time has been removed from the schedule to optimize instruction time. All lessons combine instructional time with fun games and playtime. Friday lessons will follow the traditional Fun Friday format - with extra games and popsicle treats!

    No Makeup Days

Unfortunately, as a volunteer-run organization with limited pool practice hours, there are no makeup days for overlapping team events, weather cancellations, or pool closures. For more information, please check the team calendar.

Parent Volunteer Requirements for Junior Flyers Promoted to Briar Flyers

If your swimmer is promoted to Briar Flyers for practice and competition, please note that you must fulfill the team's parent volunteer requirements. You can find more information regarding these requirements during the registration process.

    Annual Swim-a-Thon Fundraiser Event

    2024 Event Information

    Event Details:

2024 Swim-a-thon: Thursday, May 23rd at 6:00 pm. Join us for prizes, raffles, games, and music while swimming for a good cause.

    How It Works:
Athletes ask for donations from sponsors such as family and friends, either per lap (one pool length) or a lump sum donation from as many donors as possible. Each swimmer will swim as many laps as they can and then collect the pledges from their sponsors. Volunteers and coaches will keep track and tally the total laps swum.

    Pledge Sheets and Donation Forms:
Coming Soon - 2024 BVST Swim-A-Thon Pledge Sheet and Donation Form

    Whom to Ask for Pledges:
Ask your friends, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, parents' co-workers who may be interested in sponsoring you, and of course, your mom and dad! Some people like to donate 10 cents, 25 cents, or 50 cents per lap and enjoy seeing how many laps you'll swim. Others may prefer to donate a lump sum amount.

    Why is the Swim-a-thon Important?

The Swim-a-Thon is our flagship fundraising event, offering vital support to both the Briar Flyer and Junior Flyer swim programs. By participating or contributing, you play a crucial role in ensuring the ongoing success of our team. Funds raised during this event directly contribute to covering operational expenses and facilitating various activities, all while helping to maintain accessible registration fees. At the heart of our mission lies a commitment to fostering a healthy, active lifestyle that resonates with our local community. Through comprehensive stroke instruction, well-organized meets, and team events, the Briar Village Swim Team programs strive to provide children with enriching experiences that leave a lasting impact. As a non-profit public charity run entirely by volunteers since its establishment in 1974, every contribution counts. We invite you to show your support and join us in our collective effort to raise essential funds for our team.

Thank you for standing with us!
